The committee has advanced several recommendations related to training and improvements in data collection and reporting, as well as operational improvements to advance equity however, SHCN recognizes that we still have significant opportunities for continued improvement to achieve our goal of eliminating health disparities among our patients. The committee was charged with establishing a baseline understanding of current health equity issues and making recommendations for action steps to advance health equity for our members. In June 2020, SHCN established its Health Equity Committee with diverse participation from across the organization. Steward’s population is racially and ethnically diverse, and concentrated in several disproportionately underserved communities including Methuen, Dorchester, Brockton, Taunton, Fall River, and New Bedford.
